8. Fancy... a town crier proclamation?
Then come to "The High Cross" in Chester city centre where Bridge Street meets Eastgate Street and Watergate Street. Proclamations take place at 12 noon from May until the end of August (10.30 race days). Chester is the only city in the UK to have maintained this tradition. Visitors are greeted in 15 languages and during the ceremony, one unsuspecting visitor is held in the medieval stocks!
